Normally in high season this does not occur, in summer chances are a bit higher but San Blas is absolutely amazing and there are more than 360 islands from which to choose from.

Main differences between flying in and taking a road transfer:

  1. With the road transfer, the actual boarding of the catamaran after the transfer takes around 5 hours, and due to the water taxi schedule, exit of the boat  must be done at around 7:00 AM. Flying  in can be done at any time you desire and puts you in the catamaran after a 40 minute private flight. Exit is at the same time you landed in San Blas, thus gaining 4 hours of charter in comparison to the charter booked with road transfer.

  2. Flying in: no need to experience the frequent land border chaos and slow -moving bureaucratic procedures.

  3. Mosquitos and at times chitra (san Flies) at the ports if taking the road in.

  4. Water taxi duration with road transfer is around 40 minutes, if you fly in, there is no water taxi since the catamaran is right next to the runway.

  5. Take the road in and you will pass through the most touristic of San Blas, fly in and you will land in the most secluded and pristine part of the San Blas Islands.

  6. Price between these two types of transfers differ. Road transfers are $75/person/way and private flight transfers start at $180/person/way

  7. Fly in and travel light, airplanes are sensitive to weight. You don’t need much in San Blas any way... extra luggage can be left at the airline at no extra cost. If you are coming in by road, weight limits are more permisive.
